Camino 2.2 is really just an altogether better browser, or so we think at the moment.  Safari has somehow got so slow and sluggish.  Also for some basic services you would expect in a browser you have to install add-ons and hacks which also disturb performance.  We use only one plugin for camino – Settings+ ( and 1 application to change its appearance – Caminicon (make it look more mac like) and I application to stop ads – GlimmerBlocker. All of the above can be found at the excellent PimpMyCamino, go visit and see all you can do to make Camino even better.  All in all though without any extensions Camino seems slicker and faster than Safari, which has had some disappointing updates of late.  We are interested in the range of browsers working for mac users, so please tell us which browser you use, you can find a poll at the top of our forums at http://www.macmend.com/forums.

We have started to use GlimmerBlocker for ad blocking on Safari and Camino.  Its better thatn the usual add ons in that rather thsn hacking the application it works via a proxy, so in effect reorutes your web signal and cleans out the rubbish ads that slow everything down.”The problem with other ad-blockers for Safari or Camino is that they are implemented as awful hacks: as an InputManager and/or ApplicationEnhancer. This compromises the stability of Safari/Camino and very often create problems when Apple releases a new version of Safari or Camino.  Snow Leopard doesn’t support the InputManager-based blockers when Safari runs in 64-bit mode. GlimmerBlocker is implemented as an http proxy, so the stability of Safari isn’t compromised because it doesn’t use any hacks. It is even compatible with all other browsers and other native Mac OS X applications which uses http, e.g. NetNewsWire. You’ll always be able to upgrade Safari without breaking GlimmerBlocker (or waiting for a new release); and you’ll be able to upgrade GlimmerBlocker without upgrading Safari. This makes it much easier to use the beta versions of Safari and especially the nightly builds of  WebKit.

Because GlimmerBlocker doesn’t hack Safari/Camino, there is a few things it isn’t able to do: adding a block by right-clicking an image, stopping pop-unders, and filtering cookies from 3rd party sites. But you win a lot in stability, and GlimmerBlocker provides much easier methods for adding your own modifications to pages by adding css rules, pieces of Javascript or by transforming the html before Safari receives it. So I’ll hope you’re happy with the tradeoff.

Once the old phone is erased and the connect to itunes symbol comes up on it, use the key to eject the sim card and put the SIM into the new phone, turn the phone on and connect the new phone to your mac and iTunes.

And you get something like this:

click continue and it will take you through the registration process, including putting in your iTunes ID.  Once the phone is registered you should see a screen that tells you an iphone as previously been synced with this computer and do you want to restore from the back up (you do) set it up to restore click on continue and away it goes…this too may take a considerable amount of time.

At the end you have your new phone all set up and ready to go

However at worst try launching Terminal, found in /Applications/Utilities, type: drutil tray open and press Return. That should eject the disk.

No? The final option is to restart your Mac while holding down the left mouse-button. Or try this great little utility found here: disk eject
