iTunes: \"\'Transfer Purchases from [my] iPod\' won\'t\"
OK... So I had to have a new hard drive installed in my G4 450. I also had 10.4.11 installed, and am steadily reloading with all my software. Thank god I keep most of my files linked and stored on external drives, so I didn\'t lose too much.
Here\'s the new problem. I keep my \"iTunes Music\" folder linked to an external drive where I keep all my music. But, I notice that my Purchased folder in iTunes is now empty. I have authorized my iTunes to work on this computer, but try as I might, I cannot \"Transfer Purchases from [my] iPod\". I have set my iPod to transfer files \"manually,\" and I went to the file menu and selected \"Transfer Purchases from [my] iPod\", but nothing happens. I tried control clicking on the Purchased folder... and selected \"Transfer Purchased,\" but still nothing. I notice that on my daughter\'s mac, that her Purchased folder (in iTunes) will allow me to \"Transfer Purchases from [my] iPod.\" I also notice that when I try to drag and drop onto the Purchased icon, that the playlist/folder darkens telling me it is allowing me to copy into the folder. My iTunes Purchased folder on my computer\'s iTunes will not darken. I can deal with this lack of functionality but I would rather fix the problem. As I always say \"\'Good enough\' is never \'Good enough\'\" Previously, I got a notice that said that my iPod was synced with iTunes on another computer. I made sure I authorized the iPod, and reset the iPod transfer to \"manual\" as I said before. (See screen shot) As always, thanks for your help. David |

Just saw your post. I\'ll read the article, and get back to you. By the way, one element that may bare repeating in greater detail. My iTunes music is kept in an external drive. Here\'s the path: OS X Hard Drive/Users/home folder/Music/iTunes folder/iTunes Music folder alias (also in folder is Album Artwork, iTunes Library, iTunes Library Extras.itdb, iTunes Library Genius.itdb, iTunes Library.xml)/External Drive/iTunes folder/iTunes Music (containing all music files; this is the original that the alias is linked to; also in folder is iTunes 4 Music Library, iTunes Library.xml)
It was a job getting a clean iTunes without duplicates when I originally created this. I see now that I have duplicate files, in the home folder and again in the external drive (iTunes Library.xml [1 in home & 1 in external]; iTunes 4 Music Library [external] and iTunes Library [home]). At this point, I don\'t know which ones to delete. Also, I am wondering if any of these files or folders must be placed on the root level or if they must be in the home folder on the OS drive? I\'m afraid I have confused myself. |
