Please help! This problem seems to occur whether I am browsing the internet or not. (so I believe... I may have still not fully exited my browser.). I typically browse with Chrome, but for this snapshot, I was in Safari (where the error was much more prevalent and appeared more often). This error shows up two times and then goes away for a little after hitting "OK". Please help
Thanks![Please Note: Adobe Updater and Software Updater were NOT running when I received this message] I can PM you a picture of what the error is. But literally it is: On the left an icon of a family holding hands, and in bold it says "There was a problem connecting to the server." then under that in non-bold lettering it says "URLs with the file type "file:" are not supported." |

RE: "There was a problem connecting to the server" error message after switching to Lion
Hi and welcome, there appear to many issues with at the new OSX, we have upgraded a number of macs here and had a few. Luckily none of ours have been network issues.
Does your mac connect to any server or network device on a regular basis, because it looks to be the error here. Many users have reported issues with connecting to old NAS devices where they might store iTunes folders and files or Time machine backups, is this the case for you? |

I am not positive. I backup my things to Dropbox and use a program called "Cloud." I am not trying to connect to an old
NAS device. |

I am not trying to connect to an old Ok, it's the Apple backup daemon, which provides the Time Machine function. The way to solve it is this, its an apple tech solution..... Connect/plug-in and designate a different external HD as Backup volume. Then plug in the original disc (its best tested on a different mac first) The mac with OSX Lion should recognise it and the error message will no longer come up. |
