I am new to a Mac. I just downloaded a Macro program I can really use for repeated text strokes but for some reason I cannot open the Install, it jumps to the bar on the bottom momentarily then leaves. I really have been looking for a macro program for days and even got Keyboard Maestro which also does not open, same problem. I am running OS 4.4 is that why? Is there a built in Zip extractor in my computer? PLEASE HELP, my Mac classes dont start for 6 weeks.

OS 4.4 does not exist, please click on 'about this mac' from your "apple menu' (top right of the screen) and look at the OS there and type it in a response to this post.
Yes there is a built in zip extractor on your mac if you have the right OS
If they appear in the doc but don't load they are likely not to be compatible.
I need this info:
The correct OS
The names and versions of the software you have downloaded, for example i have a feeling keyboard maestro does not work with Mac OS 10.6 (sometimes called Snow Leopard)
Look for alternatives at:

Thank you very much for answering. Okay, here is what I have:
OS10.4.11 Mac
MacroKey V4
Keyboard MaestroI would go for the one you folks suggest is the best utility.
Lastly, after fighting getting a Mac for years I am beginning to see the ease of use compared to the PC. I just have some more learning curve I am dealing with.
THanks for having this nice forum, it DOES HELP.

HI and thanks
You dont say which mac you have??
Keyboad Maestro only works with 10.5 and up so that is why it wont work with 10.4.11 This is also true of my recommendation Quickkeys:

It might be better to start with an update to Mac OS 10.5 or 10.6 if you are suing a newer intel mac

I am not sure what you mean which Mac, do you mean desktop or laptop? I am pretty sure I do not have the Intel Mac.... I have desktop. Thank you for your answer. I am waiting to go to the Mac class to get the new OS installed, PLUS I think I need more memory as I keep crashing--I didnt think Macs crashed this easily. My friend talked me into buying one and I did it on the spur of the moment and then I just left it alone for over a year or more. I am going to check out your quickeys recommendation and will come back with my report.

Addendum: The bad news is--I went to Quickkeys and immediately downloaded the wrong version. The good news is--I went back and got the correct version for my OS and I have tested it out and it is so powerful that its going to take awhile to learn everything, but it does work, exactly what I was looking for! I have a 30 day trial, and by that time I should have everything I need ready to go, and will purchase.
Thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction!New search: Can you recommend a good reminder program that actually beeps or does something to alert the user? I have donwloaded a few and they really are no good. I work a different schedule every day and I need to be reminded to GO TO WORK. Thanks in advance.
