I was hacked. I don't care what you consummate mac loyalists say, it's very real. And Apple doesn't even know how to help you (or they don't care). I have always known apple tech support is a joke, but this is a whole new level....
Undeniably, my mbp was hacked. "Genius" talked about it in "assuming this is case terms" (they are probably limited by apple pr and potential/unwanted liability), but he saw the files himself. And I had also handwritten the things I'd seen in console prior to them taking over before my very eyes. I shared ISP addresses, commands etc with him; and suddenly I was no longer a quote-end-quote inferior "user." Fellow Mac enthusiasts, this threat is REAL. And Apple will be useless.
So I did a 7-pass zero-out of my Macintosh HD (which my "genius" advised, assuring me only one zero out would be sufficient and I would not need to do any further preemptive steps from there security-wise). I chose 7 pass instead, and this morning I awoke to a "zeroed-out" HD that still had 3 folders and 2 files on it occupying over 280 MB. I, of course, feared the hacker infiltrated beyond what my simple little mbp could detect. So I have since talked to three apple tech support people, two independent mac specialists, and one retail store representative. They ALL have different answers. But most of them agreed I should do a zero pass of my HDD.
QUESTION: why, after a zero out of my HDD, is my partitioned default drive STILL showing 3 folders and 2 files occupying over 280 MB??? Please, someone, help. I don't trust apple, and I don't know what step to take next. Having your highly-secured and -monitored computer inflitrated so intricately is unnerving and unrattling. I am afraid to reinstall sl osx while those files are still there. Please, please help.
Thank you.
